Helping put goals within reach starts
with choosing the right advisor

If you are looking for an advisor to help manage your retirement plan, you have a lot of options. While many companies seem to offer similar services, they are, in reality, very different – from product offerings, to levels of service, to fee structures.

At Hoffman & Associates, Inc., everything we do is guided by one objective: providing your employees with a better chance of successfully saving for retirement. This is about so much more than just monitoring investments.

Our objectivity, Carl Richards Sketch - Making Decisions About Money Without Getting Advicetransparency and evidence-based investment philosophy will help differentiate our offering from the others and help your employees achieve success.

Make investment decisions
based on evidence - not opinion.

Screen Shot 2016-01-28 at 8.53.12 PMAt Hoffman & Associates, Inc., the guidance and recommendations we provide are based on more than 60 years of peer-reviewed academic research.

Evidence shows that the overwhelming majority – 79 percent – of funds fail to meet their benchmarks over a 10-year period.* And those that do are rarely able to repeat that feat. But far too many retirement plan advisors ignore those facts and instead build portfolios by trying to identify managers that will outperform.

With such low odds of selecting just one fund that will beat its benchmark, what are the odds that advisors who use this approach can select 10 to 15 different funds that all beat their benchmarks over the next 10-, 15- or 20-year period? Not very good. This approach can also lead to disruption for participants when underperforming funds are swapped out for so-called “hot” funds, creating buy-high/sell-low scenarios that negatively impact returns.

We base our investment selections on what research shows is the best way to invest. We are guided by the standards of conduct for plan fiduciaries as provided by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974. ERISA incorporates the American Law Institute’s Prudent Investor Rule (1992), which gives fiduciaries direction on how to meet their legal obligations when selecting and monitoring funds.

  • Use funds that avoid market timing and stock picking
  • Minimize fund expenses and trading costs
  • Build globally diversified portfolios
  • Use disciplined rebalancing, so participants buy low and sell high
  • Capture risk premiums built into the market with portfolios that apply the science of investing
  • Minimize fund changes to avoid impact on participants

Bringing simplicity to
retirement fund selections.

It almost sounds counterintuitive.

These days you’d expect most plan participants would want more choices when it comes to planning for their futures.  But in our experience, most participants would rather have simplicity.

That’s exactly what we offer.

Our managed portfolios are built around levels of risk and expected returns. Each portfolio is built on the idea that asset allocation, through effective diversification, is the most important aspect of investing.  In fact, research has proven that this factor can account for as much as 90 percent of a portfolio’s performance.*

The managed portfolios help take some of the emotion out of the process by ensuring employees follow the golden rule of investing: buy LOW and sell HIGH. This is done through systematic portfolio rebalancing.

A major part of our conversion and enrollment process will involve helping your employees uncover the right level of risk for their specific situations. Your participants will be relieved to learn that they don’t need to know everything about investing or capital markets to make the right choice; they only need to know themselves. Hoffman & Associates, Inc. will work directly with your employees to help them choose the portfolios that are right for them.  By simplifying the the investment selection process , we allow participants to focus their time and energy on goal-setting and saving strategies – things we know make a big impact on their retirement outcomes.

It’s a fact that’s all too true: There’s a lot of noise in the media when it comes to investing and planning for the future.Everyone it seems, has an opinion on the right thing to do.  Unfortunately, most people don’t have the knowledge, desire or perspective to sort it all out.

That’s where we come in.

We offer proactive investment education and managed portfolios that make it easier than ever  for your employees to select investments that fits their needs and lifestyles. Our two distinct approaches give your plan participants ultimate flexibility. Both are built with the idea that diversification is one of the most important aspects of investing.

1 – Professionally managed portfolios.

These portfolios take much of the work out of the investment selection process. They are designed around levels of risk and expected returns and are rebalanced according to these formulas each quarter. Our conversion and enrollment process involves helping each of your employees uncover their willingness, need and ability to take risk – and finding the right managed portfolio based on their answers.

2 – Individual Fund Selection

If your employees prefer to create their own portfolios, all of our underlying investments are also available individually.  This may be the best choice for those who want to incorporate their assets with other investments , or if they work with an outside advisor.
